There are many good reasons to take in a good and adequate supply of water. Advice from experts vary but the average person probably needs about 2 liters of water per day.

A good intake of water has many benefits:

Muscles work better when you body is hydrated

You can think better

Your immune system works better

Water helps your kidneys flush out your system and get rid of junk you don’t need.

Today in our fast changing world it is important to be prepared for an emergency or a clean water crisis. Many people are concerned about how to ensure that their drinking water is a safe as possible.

It’s no secret that,

  • bottled water has been proven to contain actual parasites and cysts in it, as well as traces of plastic which are all strongly believed to be harmful to your long term health. It is expensive. Sometimes the mark up price can be as high has 2900x
  • tap water can be a source of bacterial, viral or chemical contamination since the municipal water treatment process doesn’t remove all the contaminants from it.  Furthermore, municipally treated water is subject to city pipes which have the potential to infect the water after it leaves the water treatment stage.

The next logical step is a water filter system.  But here is the catch. Not all filters are created equal. Some take out lead and heavy metals, some just filter for taste, and a really good water system can cost up to 500.00 dollars or more.

Since this blog is all about saving us money I would like to suggest Make A Water Filter that will teach you how to build your own water system that you can be sure is safe.

I’m going to try this method.  I’ll keep you posted on my progress throughout the growing season.  (Which for me won’t start until the May long weekend.)  My seedlings are underway, but ,for now I’m just waiting for the snow to disappear.  I certainly can’t complain about the expense of the containers What a fun way to reuse.

To recap the project,you’ll need:

- 2 and 3 litre bottles (@ litre for peppers, 3 litre for tomatoes)

- A coffee filtre

- Strong scissors for cutting the filtre and bottle

- Nylon twine

- Compost

- Cut off the lower portion of the bottle

- Cut off the neck of the bottle

- Cut 3 holes in the bottle at the large opening for the strings

- Pull the strings and knot

- Cut the filtre in the middle and gently pull the plant through

-Gently pull the plant from the wide opening through the former neck of the bottle. Press the coffee filtre against the sides of the bottle

- Fill with miracle grow moisture dirt

- You can plant a marigold or decorative grass at the top
